Big Berkey

The Best Water Filter?
I am wondering the best water filter for Drinking Water. I had a friend tell me about a Big Berkey and was wanting some more suggestions. I am looking for the best.
As stated in the first link below, Reverse Osmosis can remove between 90 and 99% of contaminants. If you add carbon filtration to that, it should be an even higher figure. From what I've read about water filtering systems, this is the best way to purify water.
I use a reverse Osmosis System by Nature's Sunshine called Nature's Spring 2. It combines carbon filtration with reverse osmosis. I have an older version of the Nature's Spring which I paid about $250 for. I see they have a newer version now which is about $500.
I have a link below to another type of reverse osmosis system which costs between $259 and $339 depending on which you would buy. It works the same way as the unit I have. To use these units, you hook one end to your sink and you put a tube which dispenses the purified water into a container to collect and store the purified water. So in effect, you have to "make" your own purified water daily or weekly and store it. My unit takes between 1-2 hours per gallon, but I see that one of the units at this webpage can make a gallon in about 15 minutes which isn't bad at all.
You can also have a unit installed so that the reverse osmosis/carbon filtered water comes right out of the tap, but those types of units are generally much more expensive than the counter-top ones.
I looked at Britta's website, but didn't see anything explaining what type of filtering system they use. I would guess it was carbon though. I would think that in the long run you'd probably be cheaper off with a decent reverse osmosis system - especially if you use a lot of water.
